Live each season as it passes; breathe the air, drink the drink, taste the fruit and resign yourself to the influence of the earth

Hwthorn exists to honour the traditions of English hospitality ~ where table, setting, ritual, and season come together to create a sense of belonging.

Our work is rooted in an understanding that beauty is not accidental; it is composed through proportion, restraint, and care.

Founded by Amber Ryder, Hwthorn draws on a multidisciplinary background spanning fashion, costume for film and television, interior design, and event production. Growing up in the Potteries fostered a lifelong appreciation for fine bone china and the English table ~ from Wedgwood and Spode to heirloom pieces passed through generations. These early influences underpin a practice guided by storytelling, material culture, and the quiet authority of tradition.

Amber’s professional experience includes working across fashion, interiors, and event environments within historically significant properties and private estates, including one of Britain’s most notable historic castles. These projects required sensitivity to heritage settings, conservation-minded working practices, and an understanding of the protocols, discretion, and care such environments demand.

Her work is informed by an ongoing study of British dining etiquette, historic tablescapes, and the evolution of English entertaining ~ not as nostalgia, but as a living language. From the choreography of a meal to the balance of objects on a table, each gathering reflects an understanding of how refinement is built through detail and intention.

Hwthorn designs experiences that echo the atmosphere of historic houses and well-kept private homes: candlelight across fine china, layered linens, seasonal floristry, and objects chosen for their provenance as much as their beauty. The result is an environment that feels effortless, yet deeply considered.

Discretion is central to the way we work. Hwthorn undertakes a limited number of commissions each year, often by recommendation, allowing each project to be approached with sensitivity, trust, and care for the privacy of our clients and their spaces.

Every gathering is curated to honour beauty, tradition, and atmosphere.
